The UK prize draw industry is worth an estimated £1.3bn, with around 7.4 million people taking part and roughly 400 operators running competitions across the country. That's according to the 2023 DCMS study into the sector, the most thorough look at this market to date. It's a big number for an industry that still gets talked about like a niche.

Growth like that doesn't stay unregulated forever, and it shouldn't. The Prize Competition Council has been forming to give this industry the structure it's been missing, and the DCMS Voluntary Code is already shaping how operators run competitions responsibly. Both are moving fast. The businesses that understand where this is heading, rather than reacting once it's already happened, are the ones who'll still be operating comfortably in five years.
